Welcome, and thank you for visiting!

I am a composer from Sheridan, Wyoming actively working in all genres of contemporary classical music.  Having grown up in one of the most stunning places in the world, the beauty of Wyoming's landscape is at the core of my aesthetic aspirations.  Moreover, having been fortunate to live and study in Vienna, Austria, I also find myself trying to combine influences from the canonical classical and Romantic composers with elements of all the other musical styles that have caught my attention throughout the years, whether rural blues or the music of the American West.

I recently completed my doctorate in composition at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where I had the privilege of working with the late Robert Cogan, himself a student of Aaron Copland and Nadia Boulanger, and with the esteemed composer Michael Gandolfi, a student of Leonard Bernstein.  I am active as a clarinetist, conductor, vocalist, and Native American Flute player.

Please drop me a line and let me know what prompted you to stop by or feel free to send me feedback about a recent piece of mine you may have heard or played.   I would be delighted to have you perform my music, so if you are interested in obtaining scores to any of my pieces please just use the "Scores" link above.  Thanks again for visiting!

Sincerely,

Charlie Tarver
