Teaching

I greatly enjoy teaching and would be delighted to have you in my studio!  While classical composition is my specialty, I work in all genres of music from classical to country, bulerias to blues, and opera to oteas.  I am happy to teach specific techniques of composition such as counterpoint, orchestration, or harmony, and I also enjoy guiding those seeking to better understand the process of creating a piece of music entirely from scratch.  (It's not easy, but it's fun!)

In addition to composition, I work with individuals studying clarinet, Native American flute, songwriting, and arranging.  I coach a variety of musical ensembles and also help many musicians prepare for auditions.  I greatly enjoy working on issues of phrasing and interpretation while paying particular attention to how musical decisions can be informed by a close reading of the score.

Lastly, I work with many students seeking to improve their academic and writing abilities, whether preparing for music theory exams or writing and defending doctoral dissertations.

If you think I can help with whatever you would like to learn, please be in touch!
